PLEATS & PINAFORES | A STYLE POST

It’s the day after a bank holiday. But instead of getting my work skates on, I’ve absconded to Mersea Island in search of sun, sand, sea & sassy beach huts.

Mum & I are having some gal pal mother/daughter time. Milo the TT is along for the ride too, obvs.

Today’s post was supposed to be about my first vlog; all the celebratory emojis and cringeworthy listening to my voice on video.  Instead, I had a full on wrestle with my final edit yesterday & may have lost the 8+ hours of work I put into the dam thing.

I had a big choice to make – either cry and eat bare loads of fried food or go shopping. I opted for the latter. And this, my pals, is the result.

So today’s post is less about vlogging (avoid at all costs) and more about the trends you need to be embracing right now.

[PINAFORES]

I’m turning up 70s style in this boxy pinafore dress. Omg so good for hiding all the ice cream I’m gonna be eating today.

Pinafores make way for layering up & layering = super cool cat.

When it’s done proper, with different styles & patterns, obvs.

This piece is the best looking example of trends on a shoestring. I picked up this number from Sainsburys for less than £20.

It’s 100% versatile for work & play. Oh and I’m taking it through to Autumn with me. I’m gonna be wearing it with tights and boots – ain’t nobody gonna stop me.

This little photo spread was supposed to have a bright red New Look neckerchief with it. Unfortunately, I’ve managed to lose it between arriving at Mersea & now. What a twat.

But just imagine there’s a neckerchief too. ‘Cause they’re bang on trend. I hope whoever found it on the beach is enjoying it tremendously.

[PLEATS]

You don’t have to be a 1920s themed flapper gal to wear pleats (although mega fun right?) And they certainly aren’t just for special occasions anymore.

Pleats are for the here and now and you need to be welcoming them into your wardrobe.

Dreamy, floaty & romantic. Summer might be over but pleats are here to stay for A/W 2016.

They look great in this airy, geometric number from Oliver Bonas. Can we take a moment to admire the pastel colours and the surprisingly adorable back pretty please?

I’m wearing this on the beach with lace ups but this cutie could easily work with dusty pink high sandals for a wedding occasion; the options are endless.

My tips?

Don’t be afraid to belt it up to clinche in the waist. Do make it midi- the only length for this season. And don’t play it safe (you’ll look like your nan if you team it with a ‘play-it-safe’ blouse’)

FYI all these photos are credit to my mum. She’s creative as they come – what a babe.

OH and the third ‘P’ is pyjama shirt but just haven’t got my mitts on one yet. Keep y’all eyes peeled.

That’s my style update done for this week. Hope you’re dressing happy & sassy & all kinds of bad assy.

Love.
